Diagramming Concepts & Explaining / Analyzing

  • Frame of Reference: Related to the point of view of a measurement. What you are seeing with your eyes and how it is perceived through your eyes.
  • Distance: how far you have gone from your frame of reference. How far you have traveled. (The journey)
  • Displacement: How far you are from your frame of reference. Distance from your start point to your end point. (Straight line, start to finish)

Summary Question(s) / Task(s)

  • What is the frame of reference and why is it important?
  • Suppose you walk to your friends house, which is 3 blocks east and 2 blocks north, then you walk to another friends house, which is 5 blocks west and 2 blocks south. What is your total distance, and what is your displacement?
    • Make a labelled drawing, then explain the difference between distance and displacement using this example.)
